At the September Institute, our mission is to empower children with intellectual disabilities across South Africa, ensuring they have the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
Through our innovative programs and comprehensive resources, we’re dedicated to helping each child reach their full potential. We also understand the critical role that parents and caregivers play in this journey. That's why we offer a range of tools and support to equip them in fostering their child's growth and development.
Learning your child has Down syndrome?
You’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. Small Steps Online is our dedicated platform for parents of children with Down syndrome, from birth to age four. Whether you’ve just received the diagnosis or are adjusting to your new reality, we offer expert guidance, developmental support, and a caring community to walk this path with you.

Small Steps Online – Our support platform offers expert guidance, early development tools, and a caring community. Free access is made possible by those who give.
Free Therapy in South Africa – Many families lack access to care. Just $10 funds a full physiotherapy sessionduring the critical early years.
Early Intervention Centre (Coming Soon) – We’re working to open a dedicated support hub in Johannesburg.
Inclusive Employment & Training – We train teachers and support workers and partner with companies to create real job opportunities.
Advocacy & Awareness – We push for policy change and inclusive systems that work for every family.
